Well he finally did it! His first two at bats, he had 2 line drive basehits. He looked like his swing was back to his old self again. In his 3rd at bat he got up to a full count. In the next pitch he launched it towards center field in the triple’s alley area. There was no doubt it was gone when it left the bat. The crowd went crazy and the fireworks went off. The guy trying to catch the ball had about 10 people jumping on him. He finally got away with 6 guards surrounding him. Ironically the guy had a mets uniform on and was from New Jersey.
Bonds rounded the bases fireworks and confettie went off like they just won the world series. When he approached home plate, the team, Willie Mays, and Bond’s family was on the field. Bonds then addressed the crowd briefly. When he mentioned his father and cried out, that got me emotional there. Then attention went to center field after the speech. A recorded video of Hank Aaron was on the video screen congratulating Barry on his feat. It was respectful, and it was as if to say “Barry, you are the new Home run King”.
Bochy allowed Bonds to leave the game after that, but not before doing a few warmup throws in outfield in the next inning for the fans. In the press conference, Bonds acknowledged that Bud Selig gave him a phone call congratulating him.
I knew back in 03, before he was even close to Willie Mays, that he could break Aaron’s record. I think Aaron said it best to Barry, that this is a chance for us to be inspired to reach our own goals in life.
As for the other people who keep on bringing up that damn A-rod, He’ll never touch Barry’s record(whatever it may wind up to be in the end), not even close…
Congratulations Barry Bonds!!!
