Well Bonds finally tied Aaron and he didn’t do it in San Francisco, but in San Diego. He hit a belt high outside fast ball to the opposite field. The ball was crushed in a ballpark that is even hard to hit on your own side let alone opposite field. It hit off the top of the face of the upper deck before a fan got it below.
Most of the crowd cheered and clapped for Bonds as he rounded the bases and hugged and kissed his son at home plate. Bonds got a warm welcome after coming out to outfield the next inning and when he left the game. Bonds was walked the rest of the game. I was actually surprised(like a lot of people) by the standing ovation for Barry Bonds in San Diego. I guess they realize how amazing that home run was and the acheivement of hitting 755.
When Bonds hit a popup in L.A 3 days ago that he seemed to barely miss I knew that he wasn’t going to worry about if he was in San Francisco or not to tie Aaron. Bonds took extra batting practice this morning and was aware of A-rod’s 500th homerun earlier in the day. I’m sure it played a small motivation for Barry because it seems rather coincidental he worked extra hard today in batting practice to get his swing back.
In the press conference he said that getting to 755 was the biggest hurdle. I agree that for him 755 probably is the hardest, compared to trying for 756. I think it will be easier for him to hit 756 now, as a big weight is off his shoulder. Bonds is off for saturday so we shall see if he breaks it in the home series in San Francisco.
Congratulations Barry Bonds.
